The new VK reed is made from a composite material specially developed by Vandoren, the result of seven years of research. This fiber-reinforced composite material does not imitate the structure of cane reeds, but it reproduces their essential physical properties, resulting in the same acoustic behavior. VK reeds for clarinets are available in various strengths. The strengths of the VK reeds correspond to the sixth-step gradations of cane reeds. Two reeds of the same strength are completely identical in terms of blowing resistance, timbre, articulation, projection, and stability in the high register.
