V12 reeds vibrate on a longer palette than traditional reeds, producing a full, deep sound. V12 reeds for Bb clarinet are manufactured with the same diameter as alto saxophone reeds. This makes V12 reeds thicker at both ends than traditional reeds. The thicker tip gives more body to the attack and also increases the reed's longevity. The additional strength 3½+ allows for finer gradations of reed strengths. This results in better homogeneity and more consistent quality of reeds within the same strength.
